Aroma Coffee Shop was set up by Haxby and Wigginton Methodist Church in 2008 to provide a place in the heart of the community where people could come and meet and enjoy good quality food and Fairtrade drinks as well as enjoying each other’s company.
The idea for Aroma grew out of our church vision of being a ‘Beacon’ in the local community. We want to show God’s love for all in a number of ways and we have used Aroma to highlight events that are happening in the life of the church as well as in the community. These have included:
Popular craft evenings - including papercrafts, ceramics painting, card making and Christmas decorations.
Courses run by Family Matters organisation to support parents and families.
A dementia carers support group, to provide a place for all who care for someone with dementia to meet together, hear from guest speakers and share concerns.
Sunday Afternoons at Aroma - once a month, on the second Sunday, Aroma is open from 2-4pm to anyone who finds themselves needing some company at this time. No charge is made for a drink and cake, but donations are welcome, and are used to support the work of Aroma in the community.
Aroma is professionally managed by the Manageress, together with her team of staff, and we also have a large team of volunteers who serve, clean, bake, manage the accounts, maintain the premises and help make Aroma a place of welcome and of rest. Aroma couldn’t exist without these volunteers and we are very grateful to them and the staff for all that they do.
The finances of Aroma are carefully managed by a Management Group and Board of Directors. Any profit that is made in Aroma goes to improving the service offered to our customers as well as providing funds for the Aroma Community Fund, a fund which exists to provide small sums of money for local charity and community causes.
We are confident that, with God’s help and support, Aroma will continue to shine as our ‘Beacon’ in the centre of our local community and provide a quality and professional service to all of our customers.
